The recently concluded 48th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) named Nadine Lustre and Ian Veneracion as the Female and Male Stars of the Night. Both stars also took home the top plums–the best actress and best actor awards on Tuesday night, December 27, at the New Frontier Theater, Cubao, Quezon City.
Lustre won for Mikhael Red‘s Deleter and Veneracion for Shugo Praico‘s Nanahimik ang Gabi, respectively. Also, Viva Films’ entry took home the Best Picture award, while Rein Entertainment‘s settled for third place. Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told was a surprise win as the second-best picture.
The other highlight of the occasion was the Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos-Recto, awarded as the recipient of the Marichu Vera-Perez Memorial Award. The actress had the chance to express her gratitude to “Manay Ichu’ whom she considered her second mother in the entertainment industry.
Nuel Crisostomo Naval-Mel Mendoza-del Rosario’s [almost snubbed] film Family Matters was the recipient of the Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award.

- Best Musical Score: Greg Rodriguez III, Nanahimik ang Gabi
- Best Original Theme Song: Ang Aking Mahal, Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told
- Best Visual Effects: Deleter
- Best Production Design: Nanahimik ang Gabi
- Best Editing: Nikolas Red, Deleter
- Best Cinematography: Deleter
- Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award: Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told
- Gender Sensitivity Award: My Teacher
- Best Screenplay: Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told
- Best Supporting Actress: Dimples Romana, My Father, Myself
- Best Supporting Actor: Mon Confiado, Nanahimik Ang Gabi
- Best Director: Mikhail Red, Deleter
Giselle Sanchez-Buencamino, Cindy Miranda, and BB Gandanghari hosted this year’s Gabi ng Parangal. Also, MMFF announced the staging of a summer film fest edition in 2023.
