The new girl group challenges the existing dominant players in the still-young PPOP idol industry, by incorporating novelty into their style.
There’s a new girl group in town, and it is one poised to challenge the PPOP scene. Meet BLVCK ACE (stylized ‘Black Ace’), BLVCK Entertainment’s first-ever girl group, whose official launch last November 28, made quite an impression on the press.
The newly-established company’s CEO, Engr. Grace Cristobal highlighted this group is primarily a novelty act, but it is not difficult to see that this undeniably attractive quintet, is BLVCK Entertainment’s answer to the likes of MNL48, BINI, and Fourth Impact, among others.
Composed of Rhen, Jea, Ely, Anasity, and Twinkle, who are all fresh-looking and vibrant young ladies, BLVCK ACE looks ready to dominate the scene, with the girls’ impressive vocal and dancing skills. Aged 18-19, the girls exuded confidence and energy in answering the questions of the press, which convinced them that they are off to a great start in their careers.
While the arrival of the group can potentially pose a threat to existing girl groups under PPOP, Cristobal insists that BLVCK ACE intends to be unique.
Cristobal took the chance of explaining what the group’s name stands for.
“BLVCK kasi BLVCK Entertainment, and then ACE, kasi it was derived from my name,” she told the press. The group’s name, however, is intended to make a far more profound representation.
She explained, “So ‘yung ace is galing sa Grace. Syempre kapag sinabing ACE, siya ‘yung alas natin. Sila ‘yung pinaka-unang una natin ni-launch na girl group, na mga-artists ng BLVCK Entertainment. Kaya naging BLVCK ACE.”
The CEO shared that this is the first exposure for all members; all are first-timers.
Unlike most of the currently dominating PPOP idol groups today, who have gone through months, if not years, of intensive training, BLVCK ACE makes their foray just after three months of training. Cristobal explained during the press conference that they had to launch the girls straight away, as the management has already seen preparedness in the girls, to penetrate the competition.
As Cristobal explained, BLVCK ACE’s market is everybody, which is the reason why the group likes to be categorized as a novelty act. Their Christmas single, ‘Pasahero’, seems to self-explain the genre that the new girl group may focus on, as they further push forward in their young career.
