The young Chinito star is set to be one of the lead stars in the upcoming Singaporean culinary film, King of Hawkers.
Newly-signed Kapuso actor, Kimson Tan, seems all geared up for international stardom, as he becomes the first GMA Sparkle artist to do a project based in Singapore; a project produced by Singaporean filmmakers.
Tan shared that he had been preparing for the role, which, according to the film’s producers, is a perfect fit.
Chef John See, a well-known “chef-for-the-stars” and food consultant in Singapore, who is also the head of the upcoming film’s food team, told the press that Tan is in fact, the first choice for playing the lead role.
According to See, he is looking forward to working with Tan and hopes that the film will showcase Singapore’s way of life and culture to the Filipino audience. Given See’s reputation in the culinary world, one can see the incredible size of the project, and that Tan being in it is truly a big deal.
For Director Kelvin Sng, who has been directing and producing films in Singapore since 2004, Tan deserves the role and he is looking forward to directing him when production commences next year.
“This journey didn’t come easy. It took a lot of visits, Kimson’s flights to Singapore. I would like to say that we’ve only just begun this journey with him. He’s very hardworking. He’s very positive—his attitude. I’m really looking forward to working with him,” Sng shared.
The director added, “I am personally directing him so that he can shine in the movie. So I am really looking forward.”
Among the films Sng has directed include the second highest-grossing film in Singapore in 2013, the comedy Taxi!, Taxi!, and the 2017 film, The Fortune Handbook.
While Tan admitted, that his fluency in Mandarin helped him secure the highly-coveted role, there is no denying that his being a hard worker, as Director Sng said he is, will be the key for him to pull off the role. Let’s hope this journey of his will give favorable results when the film officially begins production in Singapore next year.
