At the media conference for ‘My Father, Myself,’ which LionhearTV covered on November 24, actress Dimples Romana admitted to getting offered a Girls Love [GL] role.
Romana said that the offer for the character came in the middle of the pandemic.
She shared, “I will not lie– there was an offer. And this offer came right at the smack of the pandemic. As in gitnang-gitna siya. But as you know, I have a husband to that I have to report [to] every single time. And this is not a mandatory rule, not obligatory at all, but out of respect.”
She noted that as an actress, she felt curious about accepting the role.
Romana further stated, “So ako as an actor, sa totoo, I’m always very curious, always, kasi ano ‘yan eh, sakit ng artistang tumanda na sa industriyang ‘to. May ganon ako na parang nag-iitch ka na, ‘Kaya ko ba ‘yun gawin? Parang, magagawa ko ba ‘yun?’ And as you know, the bigger the risk, the bigger the rewards, and we all know that.”
However, she had to turn it down, citing that she didn’t feel ready as an actress; she didn’t feel confident taking on the role.
The actress expressed her high respect for actors Sean De Guzman and Jake Cuenca for taking on the roles in full spirit. At the time, she was hesitant about taking on roles she wasn’t used to despite having faith in the director; she herself was not sure she could fulfill the role well and give it justice.
Romana added, “I actually trust the director so much. It was I, I wasn’t sure kung kaya ko ideliver. At ako bilang artista, hindi ako papasok sa isang trabaho na hindi ko alam kung kaya kong ibigay. Dahil gusto ko kapag pinasok ko, ibibigay ko lahat.”
She further asserted that she would accept the role once she could deliver and give justice to the character. The actress explained, “So until such time– that I feel it in my heart that I can handle and deliver the job with much ‘gusto,’ then I would say yes. So I’m not closing any doors. I’m super for it. Lalo na, it’s a story of love. Who am I to judge that kind of love, [just] because we actors don’t ever go through it does not mean it’s not valid. May mga kwento talaga na hindi mo naririnig palagi, pero hindi ibig sabihin noon hindi siya totoo.”
Dimples Romana co-stars in ‘My Father, Myself,’ a Metro Manila Film Festival 2022 entry, alongside Jake Cuenca, Sean De Guzman, and Tiffany Grey. ‘My Father, Myself,’ directed by Joel Lamangan and co-produced by 3:16 Media Network and Mentorque Productions, will premiere on Christmas Day, December 25.
