PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is backing its professional esports team, Smart Omega Call of Duty Mobile for the World Championships happening in December in Raleigh, USA.
“We are very proud of our young CODM athletes who never gave up despite the challenges in their journey. As a staunch supporter of esports development, we continuously support our Filipino athletes by providing them with the right tools and training environment for their success. We are here to support them as they carry the flag in the prestigious World Championships in the U.S.,” said Jude H. Turcuato, FVP and Head of Sports at PLDT and Smart.
Jerrold “Woopiiee” Regay, Ronan Arkie “Rage” Eleria, Jonnel “R1sky” Buemio, John Kenneth “KenDy” Pimentel, and Kennedy “iDra” Mondoy will represent the country in the upcoming World Championships, facing off with the best of the best teams around the globe.
“I know our team will give our 100%,” said Eleria. “I want our team to win the world championship because I know how hard our team has fought to get there, and I know it will be worth it,” added Regay.
“I hope we have a smooth sailing process when it comes to our visas because we don’t want to miss the tournament. We are very hungry to take home the title because we want not only our parents to be proud, but also the whole country,” said Mondoy.
Along with their coaches, Bruce Cruz and Jericho Peter Ambulo, the young professional esports athletes said that while they expect challenging match-ups, they also feel confident about their preparations. From playing ranked games and planned scrimmages, as well as beefing up their strategy and playstyles, these pro players are ready and raring to go in the much bigger stage of CODM.
“No words can describe the help and support that Smart is bringing to our team. They have given their full trust to us, and in return, we will do our best to deliver by bringing home the championship,” said Ambulo.
