On October 27, Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart expressed excitement for JKN Global’s acquisition of Miss Universe Organization.
Shugart stated at the media conference for JKN Global’s acquisition of the MUO that media tycoon and JKN owner Jakapong ‘Anne’ Jakrajutatip embodied what the pageant stands for. She expressed, “I’m so excited, Khun-Anne. I have been here for over twenty years, and I think in my twenty years, this is the most excited that I have been. I love the Miss Universe brand, and I know we’re in very good hands.”
She also emphasized the Miss Universe brand’s continued support for women. She stated that Miss Universe is proud to champion beautiful and confident women as a brand. The brand also offers opportunities to people all over the world.
Shugart then highlighted MUO’s goal of giving a platform to diverse cultures. She shared, “… that’s why in Miss Universe, we’ve invested in learning opportunities, philanthropic programs, and providing passionate individuals from all over the world with an opportunity to share their voice.”
The MUO president attested to how the organization fits with JKN Global, especially with the evolution and innovation they have planned for the pageant. She further stated “… I’m happy for the Miss Universe brand. It’s in a place where it deserves to be. And I know that we are with a company that understands and appreciates the very special legacy of Miss Universe. And our goal is to remain at the forefront of our industry.”
On October 26, Jakrajutatip announced that her company, JKN Global Group Pcl, had purchased the Miss Universe Organization’s total shares for US$20 million, making the transwoman-media tycoon the pageant institution’s first female owner in its seventy-one-year history.
