At the Magpakailanman 20th anniversary conference, award-winning journalist Mel Tiangco revealed that she has no idea about the current condition of her 24 Oras co-anchor Mike Enriquez.
“I’m sorry. Alam mo hindi ko rin alam. Nahihiya akong tumawag. Gustong gusto ko na tumawag,” said Tiangco.
Despite the desire to check in on her long-time co-anchor, Tiangco was afraid Enriquez would take her concern as something else.
“Baka sabihin, ‘Ano ba ‘to. Pati ako chinichismis,’ Ayoko.”
Over the years, Enriquez has been the target of misinformation. Recently, his death was reported, but it was proven not to be true.
Tiangco said she panics every time she reads or hears false information about Enriquez.
“Syempre, nagtatawagan na kami. Sabi naman sa newsroom, ‘Hindi, tita.’ Tatanggapin namin ‘yung galing dito sa newsroom. Diba, walang kasinungalingan,” she narrated.
“Nung bago siya umalis. Nung bago siya nag-leave. Kasi kailangan niya magpatest.
“Hindi ko alam ‘yung papa-test niya. Basta magpapa-test daw siya ng something… Nandito lang siya [Pinas],” Tiangco added.
In 2018, Enriquez denied the rumored gap between him and Tiangco, where he joked about the gap as a clothing brand, “Hindi totoo ‘yun. Brand ‘yun ng damit.”
Tiangco and Enriquez have been headlining 24 Oras for almost two decades.
