During the media conference for Mapagkailanman‘s 20th anniversary on November 18, host Mel Tiangco extended a personal message to ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya amid the rumors of the show shutdown.
“I’m sad. I don’t like that. Kasi ano na ‘yung Maalaala Mo Kaya, classic na,” Tiangco conveyed.
She emphasized, “I hope it’s not true. Because walang makakapalit sa Maalaala Mo Kaya. It is a class of its own.”
The well-established broadcast journalist and TV host recalled that during the early times, “Talagang hindi biro kapag natapat ka non sa Maalaala Mo Kaya. Ah naku, magdasal ka na. Sa lahat ng santo. Hindi mo matatalo ‘yan,” she recounted.
Despite the fierce competition at the time, only Magpakailanman attempted to wrestle at the same time slot as MMK until today.
Tiangco joked, “Eh tumapat na talaga. Makapal ang mukha ko… Biro lang. It’s all professional. There’s really nothing personal there.”
However, on November 21, long-time host and face of MMK, Charo Santos put the rumors to rest as she announced that MMK is officially bidding farewell after 31 years.
“Kami po ay tagapaghatid lang ng mga kuwento. Kung mauulit man ang lahat, hindi po ako magdadalawang isip na piliin muli ang role na ito. Kulang po ang tatlumpu’t isang taon para magpasalamat sa inyo,” Santos expressed.
Maalaala Mo Kaya holds the title of Asia’s longest-running drama anthology on TV.
