At the media conference for TikTalks, which LionhearTV covered on November 16, broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez revealed how she deals with online bashers.
Sanchez cited her 25-year experience as a news personality and how she would often receive criticisms.
“Hindi pa uso ang bash, naba-bash na ako, since the ’80s. Before all the press became all my friends, they were all bashing me, and I was twenty-one. That’s true.
“Bago ko sila maging kaibigan lahat sa press, lahat sila binabash ako. So hindi pa uso ‘yan alam ko nang ispellingin ‘yan, B-A-S-H, iba-iba lang. Ngayon lang, more accessible ang opinion ng lahat. But I don’t think human beings we’re designed to read the minds of everyone in the world, I don’t think we’re designed to be that.”
She then maintained that she focuses on her mental health when she deals with online bashing from netizens.
“So I think, it’s all about what you can take, your mental health is so important. Ang daming nagsu-suicide ngayon just because na-bash sila, but I did tell all our co-hosts here na they have to be ready because, ako naman bilang isang komentarista rin at malawak rin ang karanasan ko diyan.
“Ako ang motto ko is, kung ano ang sinabi ko, paninindigan ko ‘yan. Hindi ko ‘yan aatrasan. Kung nagkamali ako magpapaumanhin ako, parang hindi pa ata ako nagpapaumanhin kasi pinandigan ko lahat ng mga nasabi ko.”
She also pointed out how much she has changed as a radio commentator.
“Nag-mellow lang talaga ako ng slight kasi ayaw kong nakakasakit ng damdamin, except if it is really, really necessary. And definitely, if you go on my page and you say nonsense because there are some criticisms that are helpful –[that] I would respond to you intelligently.”
However, when dealing with online trolls, Sanchez has an entirely different approach.
“Pero, ‘yung alam mong troll na isa lang ‘yung follower, mema lang, binayaran lang para guluhin ka, hindi ko sineseryoso ‘yun, nilalaro ko sila. Bakit? Mas dumadami ang followers ko.
“Magsabi ka lang sa akin, lalaruin kita, halika maglaro tayo ng maglaro, akala nila napipikon ako, hindi, I enjoy it. I enjoy the tête-à-tête, and I enjoy putting them in their place because I also want to empower people reading that you don’t have to be bullied especially if you know what you’re talking about.”
As for their upcoming talk show, TikTalks, hosted by Korina Sanchez, Alex Calleja, Kakai Bautista, G3 San Diego, and Pat-P Daza, premieres on December 3, 2022, via TV5 and Cignal TV.
