The app is now the second most downloaded entertainment app in the country on Playstore.
The official GMA Network android app is now the second most downloaded entertainment application in the Phillippines, just behind the streaming mammoth, Netflix.
The app showed a massive surge in new users, following GMA Network’s decision to remove its live stream of primetime programs on Youtube and Facebook. The Kapuso Stream service formerly allowed Kapuso viewers to watch their favorite Kapuso primetime shows (Maria Clara at Ibarra, Start-UP PH) live on YouTube and Facebook, as they air on television.
After the announcement, Maria Clara can now be only accessed via the official GMANetwork.com website, and the official android and IOS apps. This forced many avid mobile Kapuso viewers who previously did not have the app installed on their gadgets before, to download it, hence the surge of new users. A total number of downloads for the app has now exceeded 1 million.
Long before its sudden shooting up on the chart, the GMA Network app has been home to most of Kapuso past and ongoing shows. Those who are unable to catch the live airing of their favorite programs, and those who simply want to re-watch of their old Kapuso shows, can rely on the app to quench their nostalgia and eagerness to relive their beloved shows.
As more Kapuso viewers discover the app, it won’t be surprising if it further advances on the chart and becomes the number one entertainment app in the country. Vivamax, which previously held the top spot, is currently ranking third.
ABS-CBN’s streaming app, iWantTFC, currently ranks 12th, but it is worth noting that it already has more than 10 million downloads. Let’s see if the GMA Network app can match such a number.
