The latter is an additional character only inserted to allow the show to pursue its ‘time traveling’ angle.
According to writers, the series was intended to ‘retell’ Dr. Jose Rizal’s novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo without fundamentally changing the stories.
While the top-rating Kapuso series remains the most-watched drama on primetime, loyal viewers and netizens have taken notice of the continuously declining rating of the show, since it premiered. Concerns have been raised, with many pinning the blame on the show’s alleged insistence on exploring a possible love angle between Trillo and Forteza’s characters.

On October 25, the series fell to its lowest people rating (13.8%) since its debut. It still maintains a huge gap over ABS-CBN’s Darna, but fans noted how the show’s rating had been gradually sliding.
