On October 12, Drag Race Philippines Season One grand winner Precious Paula Nicole cited the inspiration for her iconic Oy, Oy, Oy dance moves to Barbiengot and Popstar Bench (Bench Hipolito).
In an exclusive interview with Precious Paula Nicole, she explained how the Oy, Oy, Oy dance moves she got from Barbiengot and Popstar Bench gave her extra energy during the competition.
“Well, pinaka-tumatak si ‘Oy, Oy, Oy!’ na originally from my idol, si Barbiengot. Si Barbiengot talaga ‘yung nakikita ko na nag-O-‘Oy, Oy!’ na yan. And from my friend na si Bench, si Popstar Bench from O-Bar.
“Sa kanila ko unang nakita ‘yan. And sabi ko nga kapag ginagawa ko siya sa competition, para siyang may magic, parang binibigyan niya ako ng extra energy, sa pag-o-Oy, Oy ko na ‘yun. So feeling ko tumatak talaga siya. But I really wanted to thank doon sa tao na naka-inspire sa akin na gawin ‘yun which is si Barbiengot and si Bench.”
She then highlighted one of her memorable moments during the competition, which was performing in front of Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.
“Of course, tumatak din si Ate Reg (Regine Velasquez), Asia’s Songbird ‘yun. So yeah, woooh!”
Aside from the memorable moments, she also recounted the lessons she learned in the first season of Drag Race Philippines.
“Well, the whole experience is a lesson for me. Kailangan lagi kang prepared sa mga dapat mangyari. And doon ko natutunan na dapat talaga ine-enjoy mo bawat minuto at segundo sa competition. Dapat lagi kang present, para wala ka ma-miss. ‘Yun talaga ‘yung natutunan ko na always think that life is short and life is precious.”
Precious showcased her true creativity, uniqueness, nerve, and talent throughout the competition, streamed through HBO GO and Discover Plus.
After her lip-synch battle with Marina Summers through the tune of Gloc-9’s Sirena, Precious Paula Nicole snagged the crown for the Philippines’ First Drag Race Superstar. As part of her winnings, she went home with a one-year supply of ONE/SIZE beauty cosmetics by Patrick Starrr and 1,000,000 pesos powered by Kumu.
