On October 7, Kapuso host Iya Villania-Arellano discussed what food represents her and her husband, Drew Arellano.
At the media conference for Eat Well, Live Well, Stay Well‘s the fourth season with the press, including LionhearTV, Iya compared Drew to a banana because he gives her a boost in energy.
“Saging dahil paborito ko ‘yung saging and paborito ko rin siyang tao at nagbibigay siya ng sustansya. And I feel that he also gives me. There’s a certain boost in energy that he gives me na nakukuha ko sa saging.”
On the other hand, Villania compared herself to an egg, noting how she makes herself readily available for her family.
“Itlog dahil– bakit nga ba? Hindi ko rin alam kung bakit ‘yun nasabi ko. Gutom ata ako parang gusto ko kumain.Â
“Because I feel like it’s an essential and it’s easy to get. It’s readily available. So parang feeling ko, itlog ako para sa pamilya ko. Gusto ko maging itlog para sa pamilya ko. I want to be always readily available for them.Â
“Tsaka hindi ba, kunwari gutom ka– gutom ka tapos gusto mo ng something that will sustain you, that has good nutrients, mabilis lang lutuin, pwede mong ilaga, kahit anong gawin mo sa itlog, it’s going to taste good. Kahit ilaga mo lang ‘yan okay na ‘yan di ba?”
She then talked about how Drew would assess her cooking at home.
“Yes dahil–Yes, dahil magaling din siya sa kusina and alam ko tutok siya sa akin pag nagluluto ako, so medyo nako-conscious ako. Nako-conscious ako na minsan sasabihin niya, ‘Love, ano? Itaas mo pa ‘yung apoy mo’ or ‘Love, whatever.’ Basta parati siya may say.
“Siya ‘yung mas pa-Chef sa aming dalawa. Siya ‘yung mas confident sa amin sa kusina. Siya ‘yung mas unang natutong magluto kaysa sa akin.”
Villania noted how proud Arellano was of her newfound confidence in the kitchen.
“Kaya it was a big deal for me noong natuto na ako sa kusina. Pati siya, sobrang proud sa akin. Kasi nakita niya ‘yun. Nakita niya noon na hindi ko sure kung ano ‘yung mga galawan ko sa kusina. Hindi ako sure, Tapos ngayon, I’m more carefree because I’m more confident. So parang I know na, ‘Okay, ay wala tayong ganyan, okay lang hindi naman ‘yan kailangan. I’ll just put this as a substitute.’ So may ganyan.Â
“So in a sense, hindi naman siya mahirap paglutuan kasi, I know he will appreciate anything [that I will] make.”
She also revealed her food considerations for her kids at home, clarifying that her better-half was more strict with their children’s dietary needs.
“‘Yung consideration, actually, mas mahigpit pa si Drew sa akin pagdating sa mga pinapakain sa mga bata. Si Drew really want to make sure na mayroong gulay at mayroong protina. So ‘yung mga go-to dishes na mayroong gulay at protina, ano siya, pechay, para lang siya. I don’t know what you call the dish but it’s pechay na medyo masabaw siya na may giniling na baka. Gisa pero masabaw siya eh. Chicken curry or adobo.Â
“Pero hindi ‘yung masyadong maanghang, para siyang ‘yung very Pinoy na chicken curry, ‘yung may pinya, ganon.Â
“Ano pa ba? Tapos for emergency, I have frozen spinach in the freezer. Parang kung sakali if they want to eat mga chicken nuggets, pwede din, pero kailangan ko haluan ng spinach ‘yung kanin nila. So, those are the things that I do for my kids.”
