ABS-CBN’s most popular noontime show, ‘It’s Showtime’ has officially hit its 13th year on air. The show debuted on October 24, 2009, on ABS-CBN, as a pre-noon variety show.
Yesterday, the hosts greeted each other and the madlang people with a happy anniversary. Among the original hosts of the show, only Vice Ganda, Jugs Jugueta, Teddy Corpuz, Anne Curtis, and Vhong Navarro, remain. The current roster also includes Karylle Yuzon, Jhong Hilario, Kim Chiu, Amy Perez, Ogie Alcasid, Ion Perez, and Jackie Gonzaga.
The show’s ‘Magpasikat’ competition, held alongside its anniversary celebration, still has a few weeks to go. ‘Magpasikat’ is a week-long showcase of talent and skill where the hosts are designated to five groups to compete against each other, by staging extravagant performances for the madlang people. Big personalities are invited to sit on the competition’s judging panel. By the end of the week, one of the groups gets declared as the edition’s winner. In addition, a lucky organization picked by the winning group wins a prize.
This year’s celebration will be bittersweet for the hosts and the show’s loyal viewers. There is a chance that its pioneer host, Vhong Navarro, may miss it. One month after a warrant of arrest was served against him in connection with Deniece Cornejo’s rape case, Navarro remains in detention.
Coinciding with the anniversary celebration is the introduction of the new segment, Girl on Fire.
