At a media conference on October 21, Ian Veneracion shared his thoughts about Sen. Jinggoy Estrada’s plans to ban K-dramas as solution to the ‘dying’ local media industry.

At the One Good Day event held at Seda Hotel, Quezon City, Ian Veneracion said that he does not support the prohibition of foreign media. He thinks that the competition is good. For the survival and success of the entertainment industry, he hopes the government and the public work together to support it.

“In my own humble opinion, I am not towards prohibiting anyone. I think competition is good, and I think we have to step up and raise the quality of our game – Hopefully we get the support of the government, and the people also, na ‘wag na’tin hayaang mamatay ang industriyang Pilipino.” he said.

He added that he believes in the Filipino talent to overcome the competition. The actor said that Filipino talents could go far with the proper support.

“Challenge accepted, because I really believe in the Filipino talent. If we were given support lang, marami tayong magagawa. Just like kung gaano tayo kagaling in music – kasi mahilig tayo sa arts talaga e.”

Veneracion shared that he does not plan on entering politics soon. He said that just like his character Dale Sta. Maria in his new series One Good Day–he wants a simple and peaceful life, focusing on acting and things he enjoys the most.

The actor admitted that this series with Prime Video created international opportunities for him. He added that he was ready if this would open more work for him.

Adding further, Veneracion explained that big Southeast Asian artists at Singapore’s Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Asian Premiere were excited on the showing of his series.

The actor hopes his series that one day open international doors for the Filipino industry. He added that he wants to show the country’s subculture outside the persistent stereotype of poverty.
