Lino Cayetano, former Taguig Mayor Director, and Rein Entertainment executive, explained why showbiz people tend to enter politics.
Cayetano explained at the media conference for ‘Secrets of Nympho’ last October 13, where LionhearTV was invited, that celebrities and entertainment industry people go into politics because of their passion for show business.
He highlighted how showbiz helps to reflect the struggles people face through the stories they create.
“I think showbiz has a unique way of talking about and finding out what is real. Hindi tayo–pag gumawa tayo ng kwentong hindi totoo, pag gumawa tayo ng issue or bagay na hindi naiintindihan ng tao, alam nilang hindi natin alam ‘yung realidad eh.”Â
He also pointed out the passion of showbiz personalities for discussing social issues.
“So marami sa ating mga artista, marami sa ating mga manunulat, marami sa ating mga direktor, ito ‘yung passion eh. Talking about issues important to us. Kaya some of them napupunta sa public service.”
Cayetano reiterated, “So I think baligtad, kaya hindi kami gumagawa ng istorya na may social context dahil mahilig kami sa pulitika, pero napupunta ata kami sa pulitika because these are the stories important to us.”
Despite this, he admits that showbiz is more appealing to him than politics since he can talk about his beliefs rather than political personalities.
Cayetano got into politics and served as a Barangay Chairman from 2010 to 2013. From 2013 to 2016, he served as the Congressman for the 2nd District of Taguig. In 2019, he was elected Mayor of Taguig, a position he held until 2022.
His previous directing experience includes ‘Mga Angel na Walang Langit’, ‘Calla Lily’, ‘Aryana’, ‘Noah’, and ‘Tanging Yaman’.
His production company Rein Entertainment Productions was founded in 2017 along with Philip King and Shugo Praico.
