After the international recognition that Marry Your Daughter received over the years, Brian McKnight Jr. said in a Zoom interview on October 17, that it’s the community that makes a song a hit.
In his recent collaboration with the Philippine Queen of R&B Kyla in COY (Cuz of You), McKnight Jr. hoped that it will have the chance to be a hit song as well.
“I knew that Marry Your Daughter had the potential to be a huge song and I knew this song, Cuz of You, had the potential to be a hit song, but I think what makes the big difference is that you have this type of community behind the tune,” McKnight Jt. opined.
“You have myself, the incredible Kyla, Tarsier, and all the beautiful people in the video. I think once you have those kinds of factors, it has more than the potential now and is destined to be something huge,” he added.
To this day, the appreciation of the people with Marry Your Daughter is visible, especially for the Filipinos who still use it in wedding songs and sing it in karaoke.
Although it was only released on October 14, he wrote Cuz of You at the same time as Marry Your Daughter, and he hoped it will have the same impact on people.
“And it’s a blessing to be able to assume because of the love and energy that is being put into the art that it can reach many people to be that big of a success.” the American singer said.
He extended his gratitude to everyone who never fails to show support for his music, especially with Cuz Of You in the picture.
“I constantly have to thank everybody for the love that they constantly show for Marry Your Daughter because it’s truly changed my life… Being able to do Cuz of You, being able to have this opportunity to showcase more of this art and in this way with one of my favorite singers of all time is just a testament to not giving up,” shared the international hitmaker.
“No matter how you may feel, if you got a gift that you have been blessed with, you must continue to give it away or you won’t feel fulfilled. This is the most fulfilled I’ve ever been in my life.”
Listen to COY (Cuz of You) which is currently streaming on platforms, such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. The music video garnered praise because of Kapamilya talents Anji Salvacion and Brent Manalo showcasing their chemistry.
