Not only did the show fail to score good comments from viewers and netizens–the primetime variety show was also unable to post a decent TV rating during its pilot week.
It may take a long while, before Willie Revillame, a.k.a. Kuya Will gets his usual audience back, now that he already returned to free TV, via Advanced Media Broadcasting System (AMBS)’s ALLTV. The new free TV channel went on air on September 13, in what turned out to be just a soft launch.
Attended by old-timers and industry newbies alike, ALLTV’s maiden broadcast undoubtedly generated massive attention, but largely for unflattering reasons as the Villars and Revillame feared. Comments on bad lighting, sound, stage design, and even the performances of the guests, made rounds across the web, with most netizens making ‘meme-able’ and hilarious responses to the channel’s soft launch.
It can be noted that ALLTV is airing via the old frequencies used by ABS-CBN, which are Channels 2 (on analog) and Channel 16 (on digital). ALLTV also transmits the signal in Metro Manila via The Millenium Transmitter, which ABS-CBN used for the past three decades. Revillame, himself, announced that ABS-CBN sold the transmitter to Manny Villar and his media company, AMBS. ABS-CBN is barred by law from operating its transmitter since it no longer has a valid broadcast franchise.
As ALLTV’s analog coverage is only limited to Metro Manila and adjacent towns and municipalities, expectations for the channel’s initial TV viewership and ratings are rather modest. It has been a week since the channel went on air, and reports on how the network’s programs fared in TV ratings, have been very scarce. Based on the data we have secured from a reliable source, however, it seems ALLTV failed to meet even the modest expectations, as far as ratings are concerned.
Based on Nielsen Philippines’ National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM) people data, Wowowin registered a 0.0% people rating, on Thursday, September 15. Now, this does not mean nobody watched the show on TV; it is just that number was too low, to even give the show a higher than 0.09% rating. In comparison to other variety shows that aired on the same day, Wowowin fell massively behind Tropang LOL (2.0%), It’s Showtime (2.1%), TickToClock (3.6%), and Eat Bulaga (6.0%). Wowowin used to dominate its pre-primetime slot on GMA 7, until February this year.
Despite failing to impress on its free TV comeback, Wowowin seems to have kept its command online, as reflected by its concurrent live viewers on Facebook, which seldom goes below 10,000. During the pilot broadcast of Wowowin, these figures even shoot up above 50,000 that may be fueled by the public’s curiosity about the channel’s soft launch.
AMBS has announced that ALLTV is yet to make its official launch, with all its new programs and new big personalities, in early 2023. Let’s see if its viewership improves before then.
