Josef Elizalde admitted on Monday, August 22 that he used to get offended by people calling him gay.
Being in showbusiness for 14 years, Elizalde played a bunch of gay characters, particularly during ABS-CBN’s drama series Angelito: Ang Batang Ama. The actor was also speculated of being gay after a spliced video of him “kissing” another guy was leaked on the Internet.
During the virtual story conference for his upcoming series The Secrets of A Nympho, he opened up about his feelings during those times.
“Before kasi, I’ve had so many issues na ang dami kong writeups before na I was gay. Siguro because of the roles na I was doing before, ano. So personally, before, siyempre nao-offend ako na, ‘bakit, bakit?'” he said to a select members of the press, including LionhearTV.
But it all changed after realizing that he made a “hell of a job” playing a gay character.
“Then throughout the years, doon ko lang na-realize na if people thought na you are gay, it only means na you actually did a good job on portraying your character for them to actually believe that you are actually gay.”
Regarding other issues, he considered them as publicity, no matter what.
“It’s just learning how to neglect those negatives and use that negative energy to fuel your fire, and to do better in your future projects or other projects.”
Elizalde stars alongside Rhen Escaño, Ayanna Misola, Arron Villaflor, and newbie Andrea Garcia in The Secrets of A Nympho. It tells the story of two women committed to unraveling the truth and catching the real culprit behind the scandalous crime committed at their university.
The series is co-directed by Philip King and Shugo Praico.
The Secrets of A Nympho will premiere on October 23, only on Vivamax.
