Kapamilya director Theodore Boborol admitted feeling the pressure with every new season of Hoy, Love You at the media conference for the third season of the ABS-CBN sitcom with the press, including LionhearTV, on September 21, 2022.
Boborol described the unexpected blessing of having more seasons for the sitcom as a good pressure.
“Of course, there’s always pressure everytime na may bagong season kasi, hindi namin inakalang aabot kami sa third season. Kasi, alam naman natin, nawalan ng franchise tapos may pandemic, so ngayong binigyan kami ng blessing ng iWantTFC ng opportunity na magpalabas ulit ng season three, then definitely it’s an added pressure, but at the same time it’s a good kind of pressure.”
He then talked about the themes they would tackle for the Hoy, Love You Season 3.
“This season is about parenthood and the sacrifice of a parent, kasi ‘yung first season kasi, mas parang love story ng single–single dad and single mom. Tapos noong second season parang tine-test ‘yung blended family, this time naman it’s about parenthood.”
He also shared the details about the family they built behind the scenes of the successful iWantTFC sitcom.
“I think ‘yung pinaka-improvement na makikita nila is alam mong mayroon ng–‘yung family na nabuo on camera– off camera, sobrang kitang kita on cam.
Sobrang nag-aalagaan, nagtutulungan sa mga batuhan ng jokes, inaalagaan nila ‘yung bawat isa, at tsaka sobrang gamay na nila ‘yung characters nila so walang sapawan.”
He then detailed how he utilized the personal experiences and bonds of the cast in bringing a genuine portrayal of the characters in the series.
“The fact na medyo kilala ko na sila, isa’t isa, even if nagsho-shoot kami, they share personal stories to me, personal interactions nila sa isa’t-isa. So as a director that will really help. Especially, even if it’s just a comedy scene or mayroon din kaming parang drama scenes dito, especially sa part ni Joross.
“So in other words, kahit ang mga dalagang Filipina-pabebe scenes na ‘yan, if you know their personal stories, medyo alam mo kung paano sila ia-attack. As a director, I’m unobtrusive, hindi ako obtrusive na director kasi. I’m not the kind of who would dictate that this is the kind of path. It’s really more of na mas gusto ko na sa kanila mismo mang galing. Gusto ko sila mismo ‘yung nag-isip na, ‘Ah, ito ‘yung gusto ko.’
“Sobrang ko lang silang parang ninu-nurture at pinapaano sa kanila, na this is your show, alagaan ninyo ‘yung show ninyo, para if ever na magaling sila umarte, kahit na, kumbaga parang nagpu-push lang ako, parang psychologist lang na sa akin ‘to, sa akin galing.”
Hoy Love You Season 3 stars Joross Gamboa and Roxanne Guinoo-Yap alongside Karina Bautista, Aljon Mendoza, Brenna Garcia, Carmi Martin, Keana Reeves, Yamyam Gucong, Pepe Hererra, TJ Valderama, Lou Veloso, Kate Alejandrino, Nona Cariaga, and Dominic Ochoa.
