Producer Enri Calycay explained on August 27 that the Kapuso show Running Man Philippines, despite being shot in South Korea, was made by both SBS and GMA Network.
“Nag-collab po talaga ang SBS, ang Korean team, tapos ang GMA team for all the episodes. Sinunod kasi natin that’s why naman po we tapped Running Man Korea. Kasi gusto natin ‘yung mga ginawa nilang games, and yung locations po sa Korea ginawa,” she said during a press conference helt at Robinsons Manila Midtown Atrium.
SBS and GMA Network brainstormed together to inject a “Filipino touch” in the Philippine version, added Calaycay, ensuring that they meet their target audience once the show airs.
“Kasi we also have to make sure na pasok din po sa [Filipino] audience natin ‘yung mga gagawin kahit na nasa Korea po ang setting.”
All the episodes got shot in South Korea.
Apart from the show done amid the pandemic, they got the idea to shoot the first season of Running Man Philippines because of Running Man Vietnam, said the producer.
“Dapat po talaga dito. Two years ago, naka-plan na po kami talaga na mag-shoot na rito ng mga episodes. Pero dahil nga sa pandemic, tapos naurong na nang naurong dahil pabago-bago ang alert levels natin dito, so inisip namin, dahil nakipag-meeting kami with SBS, dere-deretso po kasi ang meetings namin with them, anytime, we can shoot.
“Pero noong nalaman namin na—because they were also doing Running Man Vietnam, tapos nalaman namin na may mga episode sila na doon sa Korea shinoot para matapos rin ‘yung season nila, that’s when we had the idea na para matuloy ang show, doon na rin muna sa Korea mag-shoot. Kasi sila doon hindi sila nag-stop.
Kahit nag-pandemic hindi sila tumigil mag-shoot.”
Calaycay also hopes that the show will become a huge hit for them to produce yet another season.
“Sana, maging successful, and with all your support, we can do a second season dito naman sa Pilipinas.”
Running Man Philippines is hosted by Mikael Daez, Glaiza De Castro, Ruru Madrid, Buboy Villar, Lexi Gonzales, Kokoy de Santos, and Angel Guardian.
It will begin airing on September 3 on GMA Network.
