On September 25, at the media conference with the press, including LionhearTV, Grand Champion Khimo Gumatay recounted how his experience with an international competition helped him during Idol Philippines Season 2.

Gumatay revealed that he joined an international singing competition on Instagram hosted by Boyz2Men member Wanya Morris.

“Actually po, bago po ako sumali ng Idol Philippines, sumali na po ako sa isang international singing competition po na hineld po siya sa Instagram and hosted by one of the members Boyz2Men, si Wanya Morris po. And that competition po is an international event po na out of two hundred po, dapat isa lang po ‘yung mananalo.”

He also noted that he competed with experienced singers from all over the globe.

“And ‘yung mga competitors po, galing po sa ibang bansa. For example po, mayroon po kaming naka-compete doon na finalist po ng The Voice Brazil, and mayroon din pong member ng back-up vocalist ni John Legend po, so very, very challenging din po ‘yung competition na ‘yun.”

He then attributed his experience in the international competition as one of the reasons for his growth as a singer before he joined Idol Philippines Season 2.

“Fast forward po, ako lang po ‘yung isang Asian lang po na nakapasok po sa finals at that time. ‘Yun po, malaking experience po ‘yun and at the same time sobrang marami po akong natutunan. And kahit papaano po nadala ko po sa Idol Philippines. And kung anong Khimo po ‘yung nakikita ninyo ngayon, is product din po ng competition na ‘yun.”

Gumatay also promised that he plans to remain a Kapamilya after winning Idol Philippines Season 2.

“Maipapangako ko po na mag-stay po ako dito sa ABS-CBN Entertainment po and the network itself dahil ito po ‘yung nag-bigay sa akin ng blessing and at the same time ng opportunity po para maiharap ko po ‘yung sarili ko sa harap ng maraming tao and somehow po, makapag-inspire po ng tao.”

Khimo Gumatay battled with Ryssi Avila and Kice for the Idol Philippines Season 2 Grand Champion title on September 24, wherein he garnered 89% of the total score and public votes, making him the grand champion of Idol Philippines Season 2.

On the other hand, his competitors garnered a total combined judges’ scores and public votes of 49.38% for Avila and 45.77% for Kice.

Aside from Gumatay, Avila, and Kice, Bryan Chong and Ann Raniel also performed at the ASAP Stage, cementing their place as Kapamilya performers.
