Director Jason Paul Laxamana got emotional and teary-eyed at the Expensive Candy red-carpet premiere at The Block Cinema in SM North Edsa on September 5, 2022.

Laxamana became emotional with the audience’s resounding applause for his Viva Films creation, starring Julia Barretto and Carlo Aquino.

He then admitted that he got emotional because he missed going back to cinemas.

“More than the movie itself, na-miss ko kasi yung ganito… sinehan.

“Kami po, lalung-lalo na ako, ito lang po yung trabaho ko, yung pagiging direktor. Yung sinehan po ang tahanan namin.

“So, naging emotional lang ako na nakakabalik na tayo sa ganito. Sana po magtuluy-tuloy na.”

Barretto consoled the director while pouring his heart out to the attendees of the Expensive Candy red-carpet premiere.

Earlier, Laxamana recounted pitching the storyline for Expensive Candy in 2015, which recently got a green light from Viva when Barretto transferred to the entertainment company.

“The story line has been long exisiting since 2015, I think. Matagal na po siya, I was having it produced by various producers ganon. Pero, hindi siya pinalad na ma-green light, so na shelved ko lang sa aking parang baul. So parang nakalimutan ko na siya.”

Expensive Candy stars Julia Barretto and Carlo Aquino, alongside a powerhouse cast such as Denise Esteban, Quinn Carrillo, AJ Muhlach, Ivan Padilla, Bob Jbeili, Andre Yllana, Aica Veloso, Ashley Diaz, Aivy Rodriguez, Aurora Sevilla, Marissa Sanchez, Marnie Lapus, Jobelyn Manuel, Keagan De Jesus, Francis Maguindayao, Migo Valid, R-Ji, Mo, Valfer, and Tomas.

Expensive Candy, directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, becomes available in cinemas starting September 14, 2022.
