4 Big Screen Romances That Show Love Isn’t Always Sunshine And Rainbows

Everyone aspires to be in a smooth-sailing relationship that is free of conflicts and mistakes, but as many people would agree with, love is often a bumpy ride that requires vast patience and understanding.

This September, cable channel Cinema One screens four complicated movie relationships that depict just how messy romantic affairs can be while also teaching viewers valuable lessons on trust and loyalty.

1. Man secretly woos his crush virtually by pretending to be someone else

Complicated seems to be an understatement in describing the story of the 2016 film “Vince and Kath and James,” where Vince (Joshua Garcia) agrees to covertly court Kath (Julia Barretto) via text in lieu of his cousin James (Ronnie Alonte). With Vince unable to hide his real feelings for Kath, will the three of them ever find the genuine love they deserve?

2. Longtime lovers break up, struggle with heartbreak, then realize they still love each other

Who can ever forget the classic love story of Popoy (John Lloyd Cruz) and Basha (Bea Alonzo) in “One More Chance?” The 2007 Star Cinema favorite tells the story of how Basha feels suffocated by her controlling boyfriend Popoy, who falls at his lowest after their separation. Once they have new persons in their life though, the two eventually realize they still have feelings for each other, but will they give their love one more shot?

3. Wife discovers her husband is having an affair with a cunning mistress

The 2011 romantic drama film “No Other Woman” may seem like the typical ‘kabit’ movie at first glance, but the remarkable performances of Cristine Reyes as wife Charmaine and Anne Curtis as mistress Kara truly made the film stand out. Derek Ramsay plays the husband Ram, whose cheating with Kara causes a rift with his wife. Can they still fix their marriage or will he choose Kara?

4. Two students enter into a sham romance agreement to make the guy’s ex jealous

Perhaps one of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s best movies to date, “She’s Dating the Gangster” is a 2014 adaptation of a Wattpad hit that narrates the story of Athena and campus heartthrob Kenji’s unforgettable love story. Despite her initial repulsion for Kenji, Athena soon discovers a softer side of him and they fall in love. But will their relationship stand the tests ahead of them?

Don’t miss these movies this month on Cinema One’s Romance Central block every Sunday at 5 pm, starting with “Vince and Kath and James” this Sept. 4, “One More Chance” on Sept. 11, “No Other Woman” on Sept. 18, and “She’s Dating the Gangster” on Sept. 25.

Before Star Cinema heads back to movie theaters in November, catch some of its digitally restored masterpieces on Cinema One’s Restored Cinema block Sundays at 9 pm, with “Bagong Buwan” airing on Sept. 4, “Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa?” on Sept. 11, “Eskapo” on Sept. 18, and “Tanging Yaman” on Sept. 25.

More must-see flicks will be shown via the Monday Drama block every 9 pm, including “Alagwa” (Sept. 5), “One More Try” (Sept. 12), “Honor Thy Father” (Sept. 19), and “Three Words To Forever” (Sept. 26).

Meanwhile, the cable channel will also air Jericho Rosales’ films “Nasaan Ka Man” (Sept 5), “I’ll Be There” (Sept. 6), “Pacquiao: The Movie” (Sept. 7), “Noon at Ngayon” (Sept. 8), and “Ngayong Nandito Ka” (Sept. 9) as well as Erich Gonzales-starrers “Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang” (Sept. 19), “Once a Princess” (Sept. 20), “Suddenly It’s Magic” (Sept. 21), “We Will Not Die Tonight” (Sept. 22), and “I Do” (Sept. 23) on its Star Cinema Primetime block weeknights at 7 pm.

Cinema One, the home of Filipino blockbuster movies, is available on Cignal ch. 45, SKYcable ch. 56, and other local cable service providers. For more information, follow Cinema One on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram.
