Filipino Super Junior fans disapproved of the pre-noontime show after showing false information during its ‘Maritest’ segment, and the hosts joked about the K-POP group.
Filipino fans of the K-POP group Super Junior got furious over an alleged insensitive question asked during Tropang LOL’s Maritest segment on Thursday, August 11. ELFs, the group’s fanbase took to Twitter to call out the show and express their disappointment.
During the said segment, celebrity player, Pooh, was asked with a question, “Sa mga K-POP fans, sinong boy group ang nag-cancel ng concert recently dahil pumanaw ang ama ng isa sa mga member (Which K-POP group recently cancelled their scheduled concert, because the father of one of the members died)?”
Pooh was allowed to use three forms of help to win the game, and for that question, he opted to ask the other hosts, which among the choices was the correct answer. Pooh followed the hosts’ suggestion and gave ‘Super Junior’ as his answer.
He got it right.
Alex Gonzaga, the segment’s host confirmed Pooh’s answer and added that Super Junior canceled its Manila show because its member, Eunhyuk, is currently grieving over the loss of his father.
It turned out, however, that such information was false, as the concert scheduled on August 6 got postponed to a latter unknown date. Happee Sy-Go, the COO of the company that brought the Super Junior to the Philippines, took to Twitter to clarify the issue and call out the show for apparently making fun of the unfortunate event.
“What happened last August 6 between ELFs and SJ can never be understood by common folks. Only those who had followed them all these years can.. for me, I started last 2009. That’s 13 years of friendship and familiarity.. they have become family.. it was a painful time for all…” she said, beginning a series of tweets, that clarified what really happened during the boy group’s supposed concert in the Philippines.

A few hours before the concert, the news about Eunyuk’s passing reached Super Junior, and they decided to not pursue the concert, to pay respect to Eunhyuk and his family.
They, however, agreed to meet and greet the fans.
Back to Tropang LOL, it was during the hosts’ bantering and deliberation that the show caught the attention of K-POP fans, who were watching the noontime show.
Fans seemed to have gotten irritated by the exchange of jokes among the hosts, and how they made Super Junior and Eunhyuk’s loss as subjects of their humorous banter.
“I don’t think it’s fun to joke with family members! This has caused secondary damage to SJ members. Such behavior will not increase the ratings of your program, but will only make the audience angry. Please apologize to SJ,” shared Aprisurlie, who is obviously upset, judging the many angry emoticons in her tweet.

Ashley thinks that the show needs to issue an apology as soon as possible. Her tweet reads, “Damn! I didn’t think it would trend this long naku @tropang_LOL you better tweet that apology soon coz this has reached not just elf but other kpop fans outside of the country.”

Joy, who follows the group and news about them, seemingly corrected the wrong information shared by the show.
“Isa pa, when the remaining members are grieving, they still faced the fans and Leeteuk CLEARLY said that the concert is POSTPONED not CANCELLED. Si Leeteuk pa mismo nagsabi, tapos ang sasabihin niyo cancelled na?” she said in her tweet.

“just put it this way: you lost someone you love and you’re grieving, will you be happy if your grief will be made into a question on a fucking noontime show? and people there got some fucking nerve to make it some kind of a joke? y’all are sick in the head,” Twitter user @wonmeowsss said.

Tropang LOL and its producer, Brightlight Productions, are yet to release a statement about the issue.
As of this writing, the news has already broken out to the international K-POP community, with several international Super Junior fan groups expressing their disapproval. Some international websites have also picked up and reported the incident.
