The film was Viva Films’ follow-up to its highly-successful collaborative production with Star Cinema in 2011, No Other Woman.
Anne Curtis, Derek Ramsay, and Andi Eigenmann were front-and-center in the emerging subgenre of infidelity drama, when A Secret Affair got released in 2012.
Envisioned to duplicate the massive box office success of No Other Woman, an infidelity-themed film co-produced by Viva Films and Star Cinema that starred by Anne Curtis and Derek Ramsay. Cristine Reyes and Anne Curtis were notably both declared as Box Office Queens by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholar Foundation, following the nearly PhP300 million box office gross of the film.
It was briefly the highest grossing local film of all time, before Vice Ganda’s Praybeyt Benjamin snatched the title.
While A Secret Affair never matched or even came closer to No Other Woman’s box office success, it was, however, undoubtedly a commercial success with over PhP100 million gross in the local box office.
In the film, Anne Curtis played the role of Rafi Delgado, who suddenly fled to the US and left her husband Anton (Derek Ramsay) in the Philippines, just when they both thought everything about their marriage was going fine. When Rafi returned to work things out with her husband, Anton was already having a secret affair with the ambitious Sam Montinola (Andi Eigenmann), Rafi’s friend, who badly fell in love with Anton.
The affair became the crux of their relationship.
A Secret Affair got released in local cinemans on October 24, 2012. Kapamilya director Nuel Naval helmed the film, while Mel Mendoza del Rosario wrote the screenplay. Aside from Curtis, Ramsay, and Eigenmann, the film’s cast included Joel Torre, Jaclyn Jose, Jacky Lou Blanco, and Johnny Revilla.
