The seventh season of the now-defunct Sunday fantasy-romance drama anthology brought together the ex-PBB celebrity housemates and TV host.
Pinoy Big Brother certainly has established itself as a matchmaker—for potential love teams, at least—through the years. The now 16-year old reality show has been successful at not only giving birth to future superstars, but also to onscreen tandems that fans would go gaga about. We’ve seen the friendships inside the house of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco, and Wendy Valdez and Bruce Quebral, eventually blossom into something deeper, which convinced the ABS-CBN management to give them a chance as love teams; and as they say, the rest history. We had KimErald and Melason, who unsurprisingly became household names after their successful PBB stints.
Another love team that developed inside the house, is that of Jon Avila and Mariel Rodriguez. Avila is one of the housemates who entered the PBB house for the show’s second celebrity edition in 2007. Avila almost made it to the Big Night, but he was shockingly force-evicted, three days before the show’s finals. Mariel Rodriguez, on the other hand, was one of that edition’s secondary hosts.
One of that edition’s twists is Rodriguez’s becoming a house guest. Rodriguez was asked by Big Brother to bring Jon Avila to the confession room, but when she was about to return to the outside world, the actress-host was informed she could not leave the house just yet. She was then introduced to PBB viewers as the season’s very first ‘houseguest’. Houseguests are not official housemates, but they are given tasks to perform, in hopes to shake up the dynamics of the housemates inside the house.
The length of their stay is determined solely by Kuya and the completion of the tasks given to them. She was supposed to stay until after just a week, but because of the warm reception from the show’s viewers, she remained inside the house until a week before Big night. Throughout her stay, Rodriguez developed deep connections with some of the housemates. The most remarkable of those relationships is undoubtedly the one she made with Avila. When Rodriguez and Avila exited the house, ABS-CBN promptly partnered them together and made them star in a couple of projects, including the Love S[ell episode ‘ Elevator’.
The episode also marked Rodriguez’s first onscreen partnership with PBB Celebrity Edition 1 housemate, Zanjoe Marudo. The episode is part of the seventh book of the massively successful Sunday fantasy-drama anthology. Needs a refresher on what the episode is about?
