On August 16, beauty queen-host Ruffa Gutierrez highlighted the value of longevity versus fame in showbiz.
At the media conference for Gutierrez’s contract signing with Viva Artist Agency with the press, including LionhearTV, she highlighted the importance of being kind to people in the entertainment industry.
“Para sa akin, you just have to go with the flow, keep reinventing yourself, be nice to people, huwag mong kalimutan ‘yung mga taong tumulong sayo noong nag-uumpisa ka pa lang.
“Hindi naman lahat ng taong– you know, have been in the industry for thirty years, pinakamagagaling, pero ang pinakamahusay makisama, I think are the one who stayed the longest.”
She then emphasized her view about longevity versus fame.
“Since the ’80s, I think what’s important nowadays, is longevity na wala sa mga baguhang artista ngayon. And I think ‘yung mga artista natin noong araw na nandiyan pa rin, kilala pa rin worldwide. And of course, I have the press people to thank, dahil sa inyo, tayo ang magkakasama. From ’80s and beyond.”
She then highlighted how networks and artists are collaborating nowadays.
“Umiikot lang naman ang showbiz di ba? Hindi na uso ngayon ‘yung competition between networks, as a matter of fact, ang nauuso ngayon ay collaborating, with different networks, different artists, online, movies, and television.”
She also acknowledged the ups and downs of her and other artists’ careers in showbiz.
“Because, for me, you know, that fame is fleeting di ba? Hindi naman all the time nasa taas ka. May mga times na bumababa ka, umaakyat ka ulit.
“Ganon naman talaga ang buhay, minsan nasa baba, minsan nasa taas tayo. So I just want to welcome all the blessings and all of the good things that are coming my way.”
As for her career, Gutierrez began acting in 1987 in Takbo…! Bilis…! Takboooo. She then starred in Viva movies such as Sheman: Mistress of the Universe and I Love You 3x a Day.
Now, she is part of the judging panel for ‘It’s Showtime’ in Miss Q&A. She also portrayed Imelda Marcos in the Viva Films production of Maid in Malacañang.
