When Marco Gumabao got asked on Tuesday, August 2, if he felt being ‘left behind’ by his batchmates like the Kapamilya Teen King Daniel Padilla, he was quick to respond that he’s happiness for the latter.
During the media conference for his latest film Baby Boy, Baby Girl, he explained that he frequently get such questions. His answer, however, remains the same.
Although he started his career in 2012 and has yet to reach the same fame and popularity as Padilla, he never felt any ounce of jealousness. He takes pride in his friend’s success as an artist instead.
“Pero for me, hindi po siya inggit eh. It’s more of proud ka sa kaibigan mo dahil ang layo na ng narating niya. At the same time, ginagamit mo ‘yun bilang inspirasyon or motivation. Para kapag dumating ang oras mo, p’wede mong sabihin na parang, ‘O, hintayin mo ako diyan, papunta na rin ako sa kung nasaan ka.'”
The actor added, “Kasi kung titignan mo siya in a way na nagseselos ka or naiinggit ka, ikaw ang talo eh. Talo tayo lahat kapag tayo ay nainggit.”
Gumabao sees it as a way to motivate himself to keep up with his friends. Furthermore, Padilla, among others who are now enjoying successful careers, serve as inspirations to new artists, too.
“So it’s always the right thing na kumbaga bilang source of motivation or source of inspiration. Kasi kaya naman sila nandiyan kung nasaan sila ngayon, ay to serve as an inspiration to other people na nagsisimula pa lang.”
He argued that there is no point in being jealous of one’s successes, saying, “Kung maiinggit lahat ng tao sa kanila, walang mangyayari sa industriya natin. Kumbaga lahat tayo ay maghihilahan pababa.”
The Viva star believes that his right time will come soon, just like others who patiently wait for their opportunity to shine.
“I believe na lahat tayo ay may kanya-kanyang oras, lahat tayo ay may kanya-kanyang timing, especially sa career,” he ended his statement.
Gumabao will co-star with Miss International 2016 Kylie Versoza in Baby Boy, Baby Girl.
