The FAMAS Awards 2022 best director and the best actor responded to a journalist’s inquiry on whether or not his film’s crowd is organic.
Fresh from his double-victory as this year’s FAMAS, Atty. Vince Tañada, appeared on the August 5 episode of TeleRadyo’s morning show, On the Spot, to promote the movie and share exciting details about the multi-awarded film.
No-holds-barred journalist and anchor Karmina Constantino-Torres, hosts the show, alongside veteran newscaster, Tony Velasquez.
During the show, Constantino-Torres sought clarification from the director, about his claim that Katips was sold out in its first few days in cinemas.
“Pag sinabi mo Direk Vince na ‘sold out’, ito yung mga talagang tingi-tinging bumili, at hindi may bumili ng bulk at pinamigay?
“(By ‘sold out’, did you mean these were tickets sold individually by different people, or were they sold in bulk or given away?),” the Kapamilya journalist asked.
It can be recalled that before Katips’ commercial release in cinemas, another film showing on the same date was plagued by allegations that suggested bulk tickets were sold and distributed to fans by film producers themselves, to make the film appear a box office hit.
“Wala, wala kaming ganon Karmina, kasi wala kaming pera. Talagang organic ‘tong nagpupuntahang mga tao sa mga sinehan (We are no way capable of doing that, Karmina, because we don’t have the funds! These people going to the cinemas to see our film, are truly organic),” Tañada replied.
Twitter user @rvncrtz shared a clip showing the conversation between Constantino-Torres and Tañada, in his tweet.
“Kween @ConstantKC Our Lady of Shade, thank you for your service. #KatipsTheMovie #OnTheSpotTeleradyo,” his tweet reads.

Katips won seven out of its 17 nominations in the 70th FAMAS Awards, making it the year’s biggest winner.
Tañada previously expressed his optimism that the film’s victory would mean a box office success.
