Kapuso actor Jeric Gonzales on Sunday, August 21, assured that his portrayal of the local version of Nam Do-San will very much be “Filipino-like.”
Nam Do-San is the character of Nam Joo-hyuk in the hit Korean series Start-Up, which GMA Network acquired the rights to adapt.
In the press conference in Davao, Gonzales, who plays Davidson “Dave” Navarro, admitted playing Nam Do-San was a challenge. However, the actor realized he did not need to be a “copycat” to give justice to his character.
“So for me po, at first, mahirap siya. Pero since adaptation nga natin ito na Start Up PH, and may flavor na ng Philippines, naisip ko na ‘yung role ko, hindi ko kailangang gayahin talaga mismo ‘yung ginawa ni Nam Joo-Hyuk doon sa role niya,” explained Gonzales in front of select members of the press, including LionhearTV.
The Kapuso actor who watched the original series during the pandemic shared that he has the freedom to make his character as local as it can be.
“So siguro po, in some parts, noong pinanuod ko siya, nakakuha ako ng mga pointers. Pero may freedom po tayo na gawin [ito na] sariling atin.”
Also present at the conference was Alden Richards, who plays Tristan Hernandez, the Filipino version of Han “Good Boy” Ji-pyeong.
Start-Up PH will premiere on September 17.
