On August 23, movie director Jason Paul Laxamana revealed that actor Carlo Aquino had apprehensions about accepting his role in Expensive Candy.
At the digital media conference for Expensive Candy with the press, including LionhearTV, Laxamana recounted when offered the role to Aquino.
“Parang kung naaalala ko, Carlo, ikaw ‘yung kinakabahan nun, eh. Noong prinesent ‘yung story. Nagmessage siya sa akin sa Facebook, tapos iba ‘yung pangalan.
“Unang mga tanong pa lang niya nase-sense ko na baka akala nito ‘yung mga R-Rated na bold movies.”
He then recounted how he assured Aquino regarding his character.
“Parang sinabi ko sa kanya, mas malala pa ‘yung ginawa mo sa Cinemalaya, tawa siya, kasi hindi niya inexpect na alam ko ‘yung mga pelikulang ganon.
“Bottomline, romance movie pa rin na it just/ so happened na ganon ‘yung setting.”
Laxamana also noted that Aquino was his personal choice for the role.
“Ako oo, personal choice ko nga si Carlo, kasi si Carlo matagal ko ng kinukulit ‘yan eh. So noong nagkaroon ng opportunity para kunin siya, I thought perfect siya para dito sa Expensive Candy.”
Aquino detailed how Laxamana guided him on the set for his portrayal in Expensive Candy.
“Everyday akong nagpapa-guide kay ano–kay Jason, siyempre vision niya ‘to. Actually, every scene, nag-uusap kami kung ano ‘yung gusto niya sa scene. Kahit during the take, magpupunta ‘yan sa akin tapos sasabihin niya kung paano dapat ‘yung bato ng linya na gusto niya. Tapos ‘yun na-appreciate ko naman ‘yun kasi na-guide niya ako.”
Carlo Aquino stars in the upcoming romance movie from Viva, Expensive Candy, alongside Kapamilya star Julia Barretto.
Joining them are Denise Esteban, Quinn Carrillo, AJ Muhlach, Ivan Padilla, Bob Jbeili, Andre Yllana, Aica Veloso, Ashley Diaz, Aivy Rodriguez, Aurora Sevilla, Marissa Sanchez, Marnie Lapus, Jobelyn Manuel, Keagan De Jesus, Francis Maguindayao, Migo Valid, R-Ji, Mo, Valfer, and Tomas.
Directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, Expensive Candy premieres in cinemas nationwide on September 14.
