Why You Should See It:
Perhaps a melodramatic finale where the entire cast weeps for somebody’s death is not an ideal conclusion for a coming-of-age drama, especially one that has ensnared countless fans who swooned for the fairytale romance of Deib (Donny Pangilinan) and Max (Belle Mariano).
But for some reason, it does feel fitting, as it allows the many beautiful life lessons the series imparted, to converge at one point. It is a bittersweet tribute not just to the young couple’s emotional journey, but to the growing up that all other characters in the series, and He’s Into Her fans alike, accomplished throughout the entire run of the youth-oriented drama.
Finding its dreaded but necessary conclusion, He’s Into Her, chooses in the end, to remind us what it has always been about. The series establishes its links to the origins of the many love stories, the inspiring plights, and stories of redemption that formed within the four corners of Benison. But more importantly, it brought back that one singular moment that saw Deib and Max’s magical romance.
While it is true the sendoff episode of this phenomenal season took off in a poignant and weepy tone, it does progress to a more light and breezy one, enough to pay homage to the tender and affectionate sweetness of the first season. A senior ball is coming up, and the entire Benison gang has been candidly exchanging insights and tidbits about what’s next in their teenage adventure.
Sentiments overflow once more towards the latter part of the finale, but it is one that conveniently feels like a form of emotional healing, a catharsis fit for a heart that need some intensive nursing. And that’s what the final few moments of this series provide. Max and Deib’s happy ending proves to be what they and the viewers deserve after all. It is a fitting reward that comes after a series of devastating challenges. That is exactly what the series has been eager to tell about: that the miracles and gifts of not giving up in love are eternal, and that every heartache is a happy ending in the making.
