Director of the upcoming Star Magic Studios movie Connected Theodore Boborol pointed out on Thursday, July 20, that Pinoy Big Brother produces artists because of how it appeals to viewers’ emotions.
Since 2005, PBB has produced artists, with the likes of Kim Chiu, and James Reid, among many already making names for themselves.
In an exclusive interview with LionhearTV, Boborol pointed out that local artists were shrouded with mystery, keeping their private lives away from the public. But when PBB came out, people realized these celebrities were also humans.
“Pero noong na-launch ang PBB, parang na-realize siguro ng mga producers or ng mga tao mismo na mas nagla-latch on ka pala kapag alam mo lahat ang tungkol sa isang tao, ‘yung good side and bad side niya.
“Kasi nagiging buo siya, nagiging hindi siya robot, nagiging totoo siya. At dahil totoo siya na mayroon siyang flaws and weakness, mas nakaka-relate ka kasi hindi ka rin naman perpekto, parang ganoon.”
Apart from the realness, the filmmaker also explained that PBB has an “aspiration factor” that lets the audience know what the housemates’ dreams were.
“Na siyempre dahil nakita mo sila when they’re just “normal” people inside the house, at naririnig mo 24/7 kung ano ang mga pangarap nila sa buhay or para sa pamilya nila, gusto mo silang mag-root for them. Kasi parang feeling mo, kilalang-kilala mo na sila.”
He added, “So ‘pag lumabas sila, gusto mong mag-root na magtagumpay sa career na tatahakin nila, at siyempre, gusto mo sa showbiz para masubaybayan mo pa rin sila.”
Furthermore, PBB gave its viewers a say on a housemate’s career trajectory.
“Parang feeling natin, pagmamay-ari natin sila. Parang dapat may say tayo sa career nila. At dahil nakikinig sila sa’tin, nakikinig sa mga fans at sa social media, feeling natin tuloy in power din tayo, na parang ka-close natin talaga sila na mga tao.”
Meanwhile, Boborol’s latest project, titled Connected, comprises PBB: Connect alumna Andi Abaya, Kobie Brown, Gail Banawis, Ralph Malibunas, Amanda Zamora, Chico Alicaya, and Richard Juan. It tells the story of finding love and connection.
The movie comes out on July 22 and will be available for streaming on KTX, iWantTFC, TFC IPTV Video on Demand, and Sky Cable pay-per-view.
