Tourism has been bouncing back and finding a new vigor. In Bohol, tourism foot traffic has been steadily on the rise.
The local tourism industry in Bohol is quickly revitalizing, with tourism foot traffic finally tracking an upward projection after more than two years of getting stalled, due to the pandemic. A big part of this recovery is being made possible by the strengthened collaboration between local government units and reliable partners, who signed up to help jumpstart the tourism sector, in the wake of the debilitating impacts of the covid crisis.
Danao Mayor, Jose Cepedoza, recalled the many times the town tried to find its footing in the tourism industry, noting several challenges, including the Bohol quake and the pandemic, that hindered efforts to allow every project to take off.
One of the major attractions not just in the municipality of Danao, but the entire province of Bohol, is the Danao Adventure Park. Cepedoza shared how the project was realized and made to take off.
“We designed a project of tourism…economic enterprise, that community will be involved (in). They will be hired as workers—not only workers, stakeholders, and owners. They participated in all the development, considering that the LGU had no funds at the start of the project” he said, noting that the effort was a collective initiative from various groups and stakeholders.
Cepedoza noted the camaraderie among the participating groups that made the project, an immense success. “We combined our forces to be able to establish this Park. And it happened by the blessings of the Almighty. We succeeded because we started in the, river trekking, spelunking, kayaking…” he shared.
Tourist arrivals in Danao notably skyrocketed from 100,000 in May to almost 1,000,000 in July, as noted by Cepedoza. The mayor also shared that a large part of the income generated through tourism activities is to be used for the sustenance and and subsidy of the town’s technological college. The said educational institution is free for all Danaoanons, the residents of the town.
