Kapamilya actress Agot Isidro on Wednesday, August 17, sarcastically applauded the valiant efforts of SAGIP Party-list representative Rodante Marcoleta to keep ABS-CBN from ever returning to free TV.
Recently, Marcoleta “found” it suspicious that the Kapamilya Network had a joint venture with TV5, buying shares of almost 35%. The House representative claimed that a franchise-less network should not be able to broadcast its programs on a free-to-air channel unless it first “settles” its obligations to the government.
“Pupwede ba Mr. Speaker, na ang isang network na hindi na natin binigyan ng lisensya because of these established violations, wala na siyang prangkisa, pwede ba siyang sumakay nang gano’n gano’n lang without settling the obligations to the country, to the government?”
Furthermore, he accused TV5 of being owned by foreign entities, a similar tactic he used to shut down ABS-CBN.
“This particular deal must be looked into Mr. Speaker, and I think, because of this deal, we have yet to have let the proverbial cat out of the bag Mr. Speaker. Why? MediaQuest, the parent company of TV5, is owned by PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund. And the grapevine Mr. Speaker is so loud that PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund is owned by an Indonesian national.”
Isidro, in a tweet, ridiculed the lawmaker by focusing his attention on the landmark deal between the broadcasting giants.
“Daming problema ng bayan. Yung merger ang inaasikaso nyo. Palakpakan ang mga magagaling!” she wrote.
