The youth-oriented series features astounding talents pulling off their best to tell an inspiring story–worthy to share with every audience.
Lyric and Beat, ABS-CBN’s newest take on musical drama, is now streaming on iWantTFC. You’ve got to believe me when I say, it is good—in fact, great. Just the fact that Filipino series of this genre seldom come to the mainstream audience, warrants this heartwarming coming-of-age tale, a watch.
But beyond it being a musical, there certainly are more reasons why you simply can not take a pass on Lyric and Beat.
Andrea Brillantes and Seth Fedelin lead the talented young ensemble. Leading the show’s young and fresh ensemble of talents, are the up-and-coming teen stars, Andrea Brillantes and Seth Fedelin, a.k.a. SethDrea.Reuniting with their Saying Goodbye (iQiYI) director, Dolly Dulu. It is impossible to escape the magical chemistry of these two young stars. Having worked with them before, Dulu seemingly found ease in allowing that magic to work once more, only amplified by SethDrea’s equally impressive co-stars.
The series pays tribute to Jonathan Manalo’s 20 years of music. If you are wondering why almost every song performed and played on this series sound familiar, it is because you, in fact, already heard them before—at least, mostly. The series explores the highly-celebrated discography of the award-winning composer and producer, Jonathan Manalo.
Being the man behind iconic OPM hits such as Tara Tena, Pinoy Ako, among others, Manalo empowers Lyric and Beat with his music’s tangible messages, which complement beautifully with the series’ inspiring narrative. New songs, penned and produced by Manalo himself, are also set to delight audiences.
It features great sing-and-dance production numbers.
You can expect beautifully choreographed sing-and-dance numbers and not get disappointed, with this series. Dulu found a way to fully integrate the series’ breathtaking production numbers with Lyric and Beat’s narrative, in a way that they complement and amplify each other. Of course, that’s also thanks to the talented roster of stars who rendered no less than tour de force performances.
It has a relatable, moving storyline. Lyric and Beat simply can not stake a claim to originality as many shows before, but also tackled similar themes: dreams, family, and growing up, among others. That said, it is for such a reason, that the series becomes more accessible and more easily relatable. And again, we have the show’s talented ensemble of young and seasoned stars, to thank for that.
It has progressive themes and it promotes inclusivity.
One thing that is easily noticeable about the series is its progressive take on some social issues, such as cross-dressing among LGBTQIA+ members. That is not surprising at all, as Dulu, herself, explained that it was her choice to always advocate for LGBTQIA in every project she does, hence the choice to allow Awra Briguela to wear skirts in the series.
