The boy and girl dance groups notably took a break from performing on the show due to ABS-CBN’s shut down and the pandemic happened.
It’s Showtime’s first day of airing on TV5 saw some interesting and exciting firsts on the show, at least in the past two years.
Since a month ago, the 12-year-old noontime show has welcomed back some of the faces that the Madlang Pipol has missed for a very long time. Anne Curtis ended her more than two year-hiatus last May 27, while Jhong Hilario who took a break to attend to his parental and political duties, returned to the show a week later.
Today, July 16, on the very first day It’s Showtime made its first airing on TV5, loyal viewers of the show are once again delighted with the return of boy XB Gensan and Showtime Girls. Both dance groups have been the staple backup dancers of the show, for years, until the pandemic and the ABS-CBN shutdown forced the show to downsize manpower. Some members of both groups, however, appeared intermittently appeared on the show.
XB Gensan, a national pride from the city of General Santos in Mindanao, is the first grand winner of Showtime, back when the show was still a pre-noontime talent show. Showtime Girls, meanwhile, achieved some popularity for being ‘assist’ girls on various segments of the show. Vice Ganda is highly credited for giving the spotlight to some of the members, who eventually made a name for themselves. Among those Showtime Girls who drew some following are Neri, Sanrio, and Stephen. Jackie Gonzaga, who is now a mainstay host, notably started in the show as a Showtime dancer.
Though, it is not clear whether both groups are to appear on the show regularly in the succeeding episodes.
The warm welcome from the netizens and viewers, however, is an indication they got sorely missed on the show.
