On July 9, Wilbert Ross expressed his disapproval of the initiative of distributing condoms in school.
During the media conference for the remaining episodes of High On Sex, Ross said he does not favor the endeavor because it would encourage students to participate in sexual activities.
“Ako po personally, hindi ako pabor na maglagay ng condom sa school, hindi ko alam, kasi parang may feeling po ako na parang nag-eencourage, po talaga siya ng mga student to do sex, parang ganon ‘yung thought ko.”
He clarified that the distribution of condoms to students could be through their local health centers instead of classrooms while citing how good sex education could prevent students from engaging in unsafe sex.
“Siguro pwede sa mga centers, alam ko dati parang nagbibigay sa mga centers ng ganon, may mga parents na may kumukuha.
“Kasi, feeling ko naman kung maganda ‘yung sex education sa Pilipinas hindi na kailangan ‘yung parang–like pag maganda ‘yung sex education sa Pilipinas, ‘yung mga student na mismo ang matatakot sa unsafe sex, sila mismo ‘yung kukuha na hindi na kailangan ibalandra sa school, na may condom dito.”
Ross then suggested including sex education in students’ school grades and exams.
“Alam naman natin may mga taong nag-iisip for that, and sabi nga naman siguro natin na parang okay naman sila, kumbaga, pinag-isipan naman ng malalim ‘yung mga bagay-bagay tungkol diyan, sa akin personally paano kung magkaroon ng subject talaga for sex education, in that way, kailangan i-maintain ng mga students ‘yung mga grades nila, so talagang pag-aralan ‘yung sex education, hindi siya parang part lang ng isang subject.”
