On July 8, Kapamilya artist Richard Juan admitted that he thought a career in acting was not for him.
During the media conference for Star Magic Studios’ first produced movie, Connected, Juan said he always wanted to act but chose to pursue hosting.
“That’s something I thought of before, like when I first graduated from PBB, gusto ko mag-acting, but when I started my first experience. And I tried a little bit of here and there, doing workshops, parang di ko siya nagusto, kaya nag-hosting ako. And then from hosting, I got to do so many different things, I got to host in Hong Kong, I got to host in Singapore, host in Thailand, parang na-feel ko hosting ‘yung forte ko.”
He then recalled his role in Love Thy Woman.
“Tapos na-feel ko bigla na one day, 2018, 2019 na parang may something kulang na gusto ko itry ulit, which is acting kaya that’s when I reached out to Direk Lauren, we got to talk a little bit– hence it led me to my first regular series, which was Love Thy Woman.”
However, his appearance in the series was cut short because of COVID, leading him to think that acting wasn’t for him.
“And that was where ‘yung character ko, which was Richie. Parang ka-love team ko– love interest ko si Kim Chiu–and it was /leading to/ somewhere. People on social media were so excited to see na parang see me acting after so long. Unfortunately, due to some unfortunate circumstances, my characters got cut off because of COVID, etc. Kaya parang noong time na ‘yun parang sabi ko, parang hindi ‘to para sa akin.”
He then expressed happiness after landing his role in Star Magic Studios’ Connected because of his hosting gig.
“And again, very fortunate, pumasok ako sa hosting, PBB: Connect, it was my first season, and I guess that’s how I’m /connected to them kasi ako, I was watching them as a host, and it’s kind /of funny din.
“Hindi ko naman ever na-give up kasi hinahanap ko ng ibang stuff that’s for me, and through out the last couple of years, ang dami ko ng ginawa, and ‘yung kulang lang talaga is acting. And, I’m so happy na parang it became a full circle moment na andito na ako, back to my first acting gig, which was with Direk Ted din. So I feel like this was meant to be.”
Star Magic Studios produced its first film Connected, which stars Andi Abaya, Kobie Brown, Ralph Malibunas, Gail Banawis, Chico Alicaya, Amanda Zamora, and Richard Juan.
Connected, directed by Theodore Boborol, streams on July 22 via KTX, iWantTFC, TFC IPTV Video on Demand, and Sky Cable pay-per-view.
