Seasoned actor-comedian Beethoven Del Valle Bunagan who goes by the screen name Michael V on Wednesday, June 8 revealed that fatherhood taught him to be even more compassionate.
Married to Carol, they have four children namely Milo, Brianna, Migo, and Maypaul. Their second eldest daughter has followed the footsteps of her father and joined showbiz.
“Fatherhood? Marami eh. Maraming itinuro sa’kin ang fatherhood pero number one diyan, is to care for people na hindi ikaw,” he said during the virtual media conference of his upcoming sitcom Pepito Manaloto: Tuloy Ang Kuwento.
“Iba kasi ‘yung feeling, ‘yung selflessness na nakukuha mo,” added the father of four.
Bitoy admitted that he was once a selfish person, thinking only of himself. But when his children came into his life, it changed not only his life but also his perception.
“Parang it used to be like this eh: Ako lang, ako lang iniintindi ko. Pero noong nagkaroon ako ng mga anak, nag-iba ang direksyon nang buhay ko.”
He said that his children made him care for other people as well.
“Nagkaroon ng path, tapos ‘yung concern for your kids, nag-emanate na siya hindi lang sa mga anak mo kundi para sa ibang tao na rin. So for me, that’s the biggest gift na naibigay sa akin ng fatherhood, ‘yung caring for other people.”
The actor-comedian, who also now directs Pepito Manaloto: Tuloy Ang Kuwento, has been married to his wife for 28 years. In 2019, they celebrated their 25th anniversary by renewing their vows at Amanpulo, a private island resort in Palawan.
In the meantime, his latest sitcom will begin airing on June 11 at 6:15 pm, only on GMA Network.
