Singer and Sing Galing Jukeboss Jona Viray admitted on Saturday, July 9 that she did not take care of her voice during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and now she’s paying the price.
Viray, during the press conference for the Sing Galing Kids Kiddiecon at Vista Mall Taguig, revealed that she indulged in sweets, slightly damaging her vocal cords.
“Actually po, noon lagi kong sinasabi na keep on practicing ano? Tsaka bawal ‘yung mga bawal na pagkain like matatamis, mga chocolates, mga ice creams, mga dairy products.
“Maniniwala ba kayo na bawal ang mga milktea? Kasi pinaghalong tsaa, which is caffeine, tsaka ‘yung gatas.
“Pero noong pandemic, grabe! Nag-indulge talaga ako sa milktea! Hindi ko natiis talaga.”
The singer admitted that she had to double her efforts when it was time to return to work. She had to “nagpapraktis po talaga ako, nagvo-vocalize, warm-up” and refrain from eating and drinking anything that could risk her vocal strength.
Viray also reminded aspiring singers to get enough rest and learn to control their voices.
“Tamang amount ng sleep and also do not overuse your voice. Kasi may tendency na kapag hindi na tayo marinig sa isang lugar, we tend to shout ‘di ba? So iyon po, isaisip natin to really control and place our voice.
“Basta wag lang po nating gasgasin, huwag po tayong sumigaw nang sumigaw,” she advised.
The singer is joined by Rey Valera, Ethel Booba, Gloc 9, and Morissette as Jukebosses in Sing Galing‘s Kids edition. It is hosted by Jukemasters Randy Santiago, K Brosas, and Donita Nose.
