GMA News and Public Affairs again proved that it is the Filipinos’ most preferred news source especially during events of national significance with its special coverage of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.’s first-ever State of the Nation Address (SONA) dominating on air and online.
Simulcast on GMA and GTV, “State of the Nation Address 2022” tallied a combined people rating of 10.2 percent in Urban Philippines based on Nielsen Philippines’ TV audience measurement overnight data for July 25. This translates to a combined people audience share of 57.2 percent.
GMA’s special coverage was way ahead of its counterparts with both TV5’s “PBBM: Ang Unang SONA” and A2Z / Kapamilya Channel’s “SONA 2022” only getting 1.3 percent people rating each.
Online, the SONA 2022 livestream on www.gmanews.tv as well as on GMA News and Public Affairs’ YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter accounts were the preferred choice of netizens.
GMA News generated 9.3 million views on Facebook and 3.6 million views on YouTube according to data from Tubular Labs. On the other hand, ABS-CBN News had 4.7 million views on Facebook and 2.2 million views on YouTube.
“State of the Nation Address 2022” was anchored by Pia Arcangel and Atom Araullo and commenced with Unang Hirit’s Unang Balita providing viewers an overview of PBBM’s first-ever addresses to the nation.
The coverage once again saw the synergy of GMA News and Public Affairs, GMA Regional TV, Super Radyo DZBB 594, GMA News Online, and GMA International to give Filipinos here and abroad Serbisyong Totoo across all platforms.
Viewers were able to catch the highlights of the SONA via GMA-7’s flagship newscast 24 Oras and late-night newscast Saksi.
Aside from the simulcast airing of PBBM’s speech on GTV, viewers were kept updated all throughout the day via Dobol B TV, GMA Regional TV News, Balitanghali, Dapat Alam Mo! and State of the Nation.
On radio, GMA Network’s flagship AM radio station Super Radyo DZBB 594khz and its Super Radyo stations nationwide delivered the biggest news and latest information via its “DZBB Special Coverage: State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.” The special radio coverage began at 5:30 a.m. via “Melo del Prado sa Super Radyo DZBB”. DZBB’s coverage was also simulcast via Super Radyo Cebu, Super Radyo Davao, Super Radyo Iloilo, Super Radyo Palawan, Super Radyo Gen. Santos, and Super Radyo Kalibo from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Viewers were also able to catch the coverage on Dobol B TV from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
With stations strategically located all over the Philippines, GMA Regional TV (RTV) kept viewers in the regions updated via its award-winning local newscasts, namely GMA Regional TV Balitang Amianan, GMA Regional TV Balitang Bicolandia, GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog, GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas, GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, and its national newscast GMA Regional TV News.
