The Kapamilya actress portrays an ‘important role’ in the upcoming TV adaptation of the Mars Ravelo’s classic superhero tale.
Iza Calzado is Darna.
The former Sang’re Amihan delighted netizens after appearing in the legendary red suit in the first official trailer of the highly-anticipated Darna: The TV series. Calzado will be the first to grace the sky as the velvet-attired superheroine once the Chito Roño-helmed series debuts in August.
Calzado is playing Jane de Leon’s mother in the series.
She is Leonor Custodio, a prime warrior and the First Darna who hailed from Marte, her home planet. In the trailer she offered a glimpse of her role as Earth’s savior and Narda’s mentor.
The sensational trailer that came out last night, July 7, gave several ‘interesting’ details about Calzado[‘s character.
She has been on earth for many years–living like a normal human being.
A scene showed, she was training her daughter, Narda (Jane de Leon), for purposes the latter still does not know. It was later made known to Narda that she is her mother’s successor in protecting a magical white pebble, which tranforms its bearer an immense superhuman strength, abilities, and power.

You can tell Calzado still has it when it comes to pulling off intricate action scenes. She definitely kicked ass, and she is sensational when she finally appeared in her velvet costume and the iconic Darna headgear.

Calzado‘s role in the series, is announced to be just a ‘special guest role,’ but there are no reports yet, if she will be written-off the script earlier than fans would expect. The trailer also suggests that her character will meet its demise, although it is hard to determine this early her character’s timeline.
Darna set to grace the local television starting in August. It will air on A2Z, TV5, Kapamilya Channel, and streams on various Kapamilya streaming platforms, including Kapamilya Online Live and iWantTFC. Other than Jane de leon and Iza Calzado, the series also stars Janella Salvador, Rio Locsin, Zaijian Jaranilla, Joshua Garcia, Richard Quan, and Paolo Gumabao.
