Anjo Yllana, Janno Gibbs, Gene Padilla voice their thoughts on today’s brand of comedy

On July 20, seasoned comedians Anjo Yllana, Janno Gibbs, and Gene Padilla voiced their thoughts on the brand of comedy today.

At the story conference for Hello, Universe, Anjo stated that comedy today is a mix between their generation and the new generation.

He also noted that comedians should continue reintroducing, reinventing, and adopting concepts.

“Siguro reintroduce, reinvent, at the same time adopt ‘yung mga beterano ng bagong comedy ngayon.”

Janno highlighted a timeless element to comedy, expressing a quote, ‘funny is funny.’

“Proven noong nagbalik kami nila Andrew and Dennis with our Sanggano series, nag-prove lang na–to me, funny is funny.

“Plus, with the younger generation, ‘yung ginagawa namin bago sa kanila. So sa kanila parang, ‘uy, bago ‘to.’ Bago sa panlasa nila.”

Gene cited that younger generations have recently discovered their comedic films thanks to social media.

He also agreed with Janno, adding that they should continue to find refreshing ways to introduce comedy to the youth.

Their movie Hello, Universe is under the direction and screenplay of actor-writer-director Xian Lim. The upcoming fantasy comedy film stars Janno Gibbs, Anjo Yllana, Gene Padilla, Benjie Paras, Maui Taylor, Sunshine Guimary, MJ Cayabyab, Madelaine Red, Majo Lingat, and Joe Vargas.
