The dramatic improvement of the show’s viewership coincides with the guesting of the actress-producer and the surging popularity of the fun segment, ‘Vest in Spelling.’
For a few weeks now, ABS-CBN’s noontime show It’s Showtime, has been picking up attention.
The show’s TV ratings have been unusually higher than usual and maintained its position inside the Top 30 most-watched shows list for the past week.
On Tuesday, June 28, the show managed to rate 2.1%, according to AGB Nielsen National Urban TV Measurement (NUTAM). That’s [already] the show’s highest people rating for a weekday episode this year. Vice Ganda’s birthday celebration on April 2, a Saturday, is notably It’s Showtime’s highest rated post-shutdown episode.
The noon time show rated higher than TV5’s Lunch Out Loud from Monday, June 27 to Thursday, June 30.
The retention of Anabelle Rama takes the credit for the show’s rising viewership. Rama and her two children, Ruffa Gutierrez and Raymond Gutierrez sat as judges for It’s Showtime’s Showtime Sexybabe segment.
In one episode, Ruffa told her mom that their supposedly one-week guesting on the show could be extended because of the show’s ratings.
‘You’re not supposed to announce you’re leaving kasi ang taas daw ng ratings natin,” Ruffa sadi.
That news was confirmed by Vice Ganda and the other hosts themselves as they also acknowledged the boost in viewership due to Rama’s guesting.
Rama’s return to the show on June 27, was not all surprising, given the clamor and attention her guesting generated.
However, it is not just Rama’s presence on It’s Showtime as seen by the viewers and ABS-CBN management to be helping the show’s viewership.
One of the games played in the Palarang Pangmadla segment is also currently endearing audiences. Known as Vest in Spelling, the game requires players to spell out their answers using the letters found on the vests they wear. Each player has two letters on his or her vest. Given a specific time, the players have to complete their answer. Each correct answer has a prize according to the time allowed to answer correctly.
Last week, Vest in Spelling became Palarong Pangmadla’s main game.
Interestingly, the rise in It’s Showtime’s TV ratings coincides in Vice Ganda’s absence on the show. The comedian-host is currently in the United States to do a series of concerts and tours.
