ABS-CBN shut down the unit in August 2020, in the wake of the Network’s non-renewal of its legislative franchise.
A recent social media post by ABS-CBN’s now-dissolved sports division sparked speculations among netizens that a comeback may be around the corner.
“Tuloy ang laro” reads the photo tweet made by ABS-CBN Sports. Its caption reads “PASSION IN ACTION.
“From celebrating inspiring victories to witnessing historic comebacks, the ABS-CBN Sports remains committed to bring you stories of athletes that sow joy, courage, & hope.
“Keep following us on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, & Instagram for more sports updates.”

The division made the same entry post through its Instagram account, but the most recent post on Twitter arguably generated more attention.
Many netizens expressed their excitement over the possibility of seeing the sports division resurrected after almost two years of getting shut. ABS-CBN Sports notably hosted several big sporting leagues and events, including the Philippine Volleyball League (PVL), the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
“Namimiss ko na magcover ang S+A. Sorry pero di ko talaga bet ang coverage ng UAAP at PVL ngayon (I’m missing S+A and their coverage. Sorry but I just don’t like how UAAP and PVL are being covered right now),” @OrdinaryObsrvr said in his tweet.

“paki kuha na ang uaap at pvl pls. sayang yung challenge system nyo na ke bago-bago pero hindi halos nagamit (please get uaap and ppvl back! I really think your challenge system is just being wasted),” @colapringle pleaded.

Twitter user @justypot, meanwhile, wondered when exactly is the sports division going to return.
“Kelan babalik ang S+A? (when is S+A retuning)?” he tweeted.
S+A or Sports+Action is ABS-CBN’s now-defunct sports channel, which aired the Network’s sports programs. It went offline on August 31, 2020, along with ABS-CBN Sports and other departments.
Amid the excitement for its possible return, however, a confirmation is yet to be released by ABS-CBN. Teleradyo, one of the Network’s cable channels, notably returned to free TV last month. Fans are hoping S+A will take the same path.
