The highly-anticipated Kapusp action-fantasy series makes its Telebabad debut on July 4.
There is a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming Ruru Madrid-starrer, Lolong, and it is not difficult to get why. After several postponements because of pandemic and production constraints, the so called ‘dambuhalaserye’ or ‘adventureserye’ is now poised to banner the Kapuso primetime block.
Here are five exciting things about the series to convince you it is really sometyhing you should not miss, come its July 4 premiere.
The series is Ruru Madrid’s first lead-starrer in three years. While the handsome Kapuso actor appeared in several projects, including the Kapuso dramas: The Gift (2019), Love of My Life (2020), and The Lost Recipe (2021), it has been three years since he starred in his own TV series.
Madrid’s last lead-starrer was the primetime romcom series, TODA One I Love (2019), where he got paired-up with Bolera star Kylie Padilla.
It was conceptualized by no other than GMA News’ award-winning journalist Jessica Soho. One can say the series’s upcoming debut on Telebabad won’t be possible without the multi-awarded and GMA News pillar, Jessica Soho, for the idea of ‘Lolong’ becoming a teleserye. Actually, it started with the journalist’s idea and vision.
While the idea of the giant crocodile is a feature in a drama obviously got inspired by the real-life Lolong itself. The vision of creating a new Filipino hero out of the gargantuan creature, came from Soho.
Sanya Lopez and Kim Domingo, were initially attached to the project to play as Madrid’s leading ladies. You can tell the challenging process the series went through before arriving to its current form by the number of times it welcomed and bade farewell to Madrid’s supposed leading ladies.
First Yaya star was initially attached to be the Kapuso leading man’s main love interest. A much bigger and more fitting project, First Yaya, however, came for Lopez and prompted her to leave the action-fantasy series. Kim Domingo, then got attached to another project and eventually left the production team of Lolong.
The series marks the first time Madrid stars with Kapuso actresses Shaira Diaz and Arra San Agustin as his leading ladies. The Kapuso hunk hs two leading ladies on the series–Shaira Diaz and Arra San Agustin, who play as Elsie and Bella, respectively. Both Agustin and Diaz last appeared on the On My Way To You episode of the drama-anthology series I Can See You (2021).
It is GMA Network’s first ‘superhero’ series in four years. Lolong is being groomed as GMA Network’s new superhero on primetime. It is the first-of-its-kind in four years, after 2018’s Victor Magtanggol.
It is also worth-noting that Lolong is also the first superhero character on GMA Telebabad in several years, whose strength and supernatural abilities come from the power of an animal creature. GMA Network notably produced and aired superhero dramas, Kamandag (2007) and Gagambino (2008)–to which Richard Gutierrez and Dennis Trillo appeared as the title rolers, respectively.
Do not miss the beginning of the biggest ‘adventure-serye’ on primetime. Lolong debuts on GMA Telebabad on July 4, right after 24 Oras.
