On Friday, June 17, Kapuso actor Tom Rodriguez, through his manager, Popoy Caritativo, confirmed that he and ex-wife Carla Abellana had gone their separate ways, just three months into their marriage.
In an Instagram post by Caritativo, the actor left the country and headed to the United States. He also revealed that Abellana was the one who “had given up” on their marriage, thus the divorce.
“I left the Philippines for the US last March 13, with the realization that despite all my efforts, Carla had already given up on our marriage,” the statement read.
Furthermore, Rodriguez asked for the public’s understanding that they need their privacy regarding the separation.
“A lot has been said against me but in the end, Carla and I are the only two people who know the truth. I refuse to allow anyone, who only wants to use us and our brokenness, for news,” continued the statement.
“It was not a perfect relationship, but we both know how much we loved each other.”
Earlier in January, rumors surfaced online that Rodriguez and Abellana were getting annulled after netizens discovered that they both unfollowed each other on their social media accounts.
The actor then shared several cryptic posts on Instagram, hinting that he and the actress are no longer together.
He claimed that a gag order prevented him from speaking the truth.
Then on June 16, Abellana, who remained mum about the issue for several months, broke her silence, revealing that she could no longer be with Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, GMA Network released a statement expressing their sadness over the former couple.
“We are saddened by the recent turn of events involving GMA artists Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez. It is our prayer that they will be able to resolve their issues at the soonest possible time and in the most amicable manner,” stated the Kapuso Network.
They also requested the public to stop speculating about the reason of their breakup.
