It’s Showtime has expanded and shrunk in size through the years, while it also retained most of its original hosts.
After becoming ABS-CBN’s flagship noontime show in 2012, It’s Showtime went on to become one of the network’s most successful programs.
In October this year, the Kapamilya noontime show is set to celebrate its 13th anniversary, making it the network’s longest-running program in its time slot.
Through the years, It’s Showtime has both welcomed and bidden goodbye to various personalities who took on the hosting role for the show.
During its official debut as a pre-noontime variety show on October 24, 2009, It’s Showtime introduced Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Kim Atienza, Jugs Jugueta, Teddy Corpuz, and Vice Ganda, as the show’s original hosts. Vice Ganda notably started as an un-evictable judge before becoming a full-fledged host. Billy Crawford joined the show in 2011.
In February 2012, the show officially became ABS-CBN’s daily noontime show, replacing Happy Yippie Yehey! On its relaunch, It’s Showtime welcomed Jhong Hilario, Ryan Bang, Eric ‘Eruption’ Tai, and Coleen Garcia, as additional hosts. Both Hilario and Bang served as two of the show’s longest ‘hurados’ for its original morning competition format.
Both Eruption and Garcia departed from the show in 2016. Mariel Rodriguez and Amy Perez were welcomed in the same year as their replacements. The following year, the phenomenal love team Nadine Lustre and James Reid, were added to the show’s roster of hosts. Their hosting stint, however, was brief and ended in the same year.
In 2018, Billy Crawford, temporarily left the show to focus on his marriage. He, later on, revealed that he decided to officially leave the program, which he hosted for more than seven years. Mariel Rodriguez, coincidentally returned to the show in the same year, after completing her two-year maternity leave. She again departed from the show, in the wake of the ABS-CBN shutdown and the pandemic, in 2020.
It’s Showtime welcomed more members to its expanding family in 2020. Both Jacque ‘Ate Girl’ Gonzaga and Ion ‘Kuya Escort’ Perez, were promoted as mainstays, although not as hosts. Kim Atienza took several hiatuses from the show, until his official departure in 2020.
It was also in the same year, that Aaron Sunga aka Young Yorme, was welcomed by the show as its first kiddie host. He is yet to return to the show after getting forced to take a break due to the pandemic.
In 2021, Tawag ng Tanghalan judge, Ogie Alcasid, was officially welcomed as an additional main host, alongside Vice Ganda, Kim Chiu, Vhong Navarro, and Amy Perez. The same year, Jhong Hilario temporarily said goodbye to the show to focus on his new role as a father.
Anne Curtis made her “viral” comeback to the show on May 28, this year, while Jhong Hilario immediately followed the following week. Both returns notably made headlines and became trending topics.
